Bind-off using the “forward needle” stitch over 3 stitches
A very easy-to-remember method that creates a soft and even edge.
📍 Leave a yarn tail approximately 3–4 times the length of the edge.
📍 Thread the yarn into a tapestry needle.
📍 The stitches remain on the needle, with the right side of the work facing you.
📍 Insert the needle from right to left through the first 3 stitches on the needle.
📍 Pull the yarn through gently, without tightening.
📍 Slip the first stitch off the needle.
After slipping the stitch, there are again 3 working stitches on the needle, and the cycle repeats.
📍 When 2 stitches remain on the needle, insert the needle from right to left through those 2 stitches.
📍 Pull the yarn through and slip the first stitch off.
📍 Pull the yarn through the last stitch and secure.
The elasticity of the edge is controlled by the stitch length and yarn tension. The stitch should not be shorter than the width of a stitch, and the yarn should be tightened only until it touches the fabric.
Periodically stretch the edge to make sure it stretches at least as well as the main fabric.
Easy, quick, comfortable, and neat 😊
