Casting on stitches at the end of a row
There are many ways to cast on stitches — you can choose any method that is convenient for you.
This is how I cast on stitches:
At the end of the previous row, I cast on stitches the same way I do at the very beginning of the work — using the universal and simple long tail cast-on method:
- Hold the working yarn with the thumb and index finger of your left hand.
- Insert the right needle from bottom to top under the yarn near the thumb of your left hand.
- Use the right needle to catch the yarn on your index finger from right to left.
- Pull the captured yarn under the yarn on your left thumb.
- Release the yarn from the fingers of your left hand.
- Tighten the resulting stitch and repeat the steps above.
A few tips:
- Do not tighten the new stitch too much.
- Make sure the resulting chain along the cast-on edge does not twist.
- Control the yarn tension, so the stitches can move freely along the needle.
Important!
- At the end of the row, cast on one stitch fewer than the number of stitches you need.
- The last stitch is cast on with a simple yarn over at the beginning of the next row: insert the right needle under the yarn from bottom to top toward yourself.
- Then knit the row using the required pattern.
