Grafting Stitches with a Tapestry Needle
For this work, a dull sewing or embroidery needle is needed, sewing thread the same color as the garment and the parts to be seamed. On the knitted fabric, the row of stitches over which this work will be performed has to be marked.
Thread the sewing thread into the needle, and secure the end on the wrong side of the garment so that the knot is not visible.
Place the edges of the garment together in such a way that the stitches are located directly opposite each other.
Insert the needle into the first stitch on one edge from bottom to top.
After this, insert the needle into the corresponding stitch on the other edge, likewise from bottom to top.
In the same manner, lead the thread in the opposite direction, without pulling too strongly, so the edge stays stretchy.
Continue joining stitches in pairs, tracing the path of the stitches in the knitted fabric.
After the last stitch, carefully fasten the thread on the wrong side, and hide its end within the knitted fabric.
The seam should turn out flat, stretchy and invisible — without constricting the knitted fabric.
