Olyana
This name has ancient Ukrainian and pan-Slavic origins, deriving from the word “olyan” or “olyana,” which translates as “young oak grove.” The oak tree is a symbol of strength and power, so the name Olyana can be interpreted as meaning “strong” or “mighty.”
Additionally, the ancient root “olyan” is also believed to have given rise to the word for linen (“lyon” in Ukrainian).

“Olyana” top is worked seamlessly from the neck down. First, the Back Yoke is worked, then stitches for the Fronts are picked up along the shoulder, the two halves of the Front are first worked separately, then joined to each other after shaping of the round neckline has been completed. Back and Front are joined after armhole shaping has been completed, then the Body of the top is worked in one piece in the round to the desired overall length, ending with a lace edging. Then, the sleeves are worked from the armhole down after a subtle sleeve cap has been added through short row shaping. The garment is finished by working the neckline edging.

The pattern contains three shaping options for the Body – straight without shaping, with moderate A-line shaping up to the hipline, and with a more pronounced A-line shape. For all three versions, detailed row-by-row instructions are provided.
